Dishing Up the Dirt

i need a walker

March 8, 2011

First of all, I wanted to thank each and every one of you for your kind words about my marathon.  It was one of the hardest things I have ever done, and it feels good to have cheerleaders from all over!  So thank you!

Now on to other news.  Since I was having trouble walking around town yesterday, Taylor and I decided a nice drive to the coast was in order.  It was a beautiful drive through vines, farms, and adorable small towns.  And the view of the ocean wasn’t half bad.

It was really windy, but the sun shining and we were in need of some vitamin D.  So we laid down for a while to listen to the ocean and take in the beautiful views.

After our trip to the coast we made our way to the small town of Healdsburg. This is the cutest wine town I have been to.  It is full of good food, wine, and lots of live music.  We love it.  And once we were all check into our hotel we explored town. We were pretty hungry so we made our way over to a cool little restaurant Zin.  We immediately ordered a bottle of the Rancho Zabaco Zinfandel.  It was light and delicious.  Followed by bacon wrapped dates.

Clearly I am still celebrating national pig day!  Which I think should be celebrated more than once a year.

And then the main course.  I ordered a leg of lamb with mashed butternut squash and radishes.  It was divine.

Taylor ordered the veggie pasta with lots of cheese.  Which was really tasty as well.  But I think the leg of lamb was the winner.

Currently I am enjoying this massive croissant and coffee while we decided what we are doing today.  The possibilities are endless in wine country!

I’ve been reading the blog since the NYT article but had to chime in for the first time: You must visit Kuleto Estate if you have time. They are in St. Helena, I was just there Thursday and have been before (I live in Massachusetts). The views are beautiful, the architecture amazing, the wine is delicious, plus a wonderful artisan cheese plate is served with the tasting. Have fun and congrats on the marathon!

Small world… my friend from college runs the Costeaux bakery you went to in Healdsburg! I love that town, it’s really my favorite spot in the wine country.
