Chai Spiced Winter Porridge
As our chores at the farm slowly pick up breakfast is living up to its reputation as “the most important meal of the day.” We’re trying to learn from past mistakes (fueling up on coffee only) and attempting to get enough nourishment in the morning so we can avoid mid afternoon crashes.
Breakfast is definitely a challenge for me during the farm season and doesn’t excite me quite as much as dinner does. I love coming in from the fields at the end of the day, stripping out of my farm clothes, pouring a glass of wine and slowly getting into a rhythm of preparing a nourishing dinner for us. With that being said, I’m going to challenge myself to create more make-ahead breakfast so we can get out the door and into the fields fueled and energized.
This porridge was such a nice change of pace from our usual smoothies. We loved the added spice from my chai spiced pecans, and the crunch from the pomegranates is absolutely lovely. This is the kind of breakfast I fantasize about while I’m still lying in bed at night. Food like this makes early mornings a lot more enjoyable.
I hope you all love this hearty porridge as much as we do. This is definitely not a “strict” recipe. Use whatever grains you have on hand- oats, wheat bran, amaranth, etc. As always have fun in the kitchen and add as many toppings as you fancy. The combination of the warming spices and pomegranate is what makes this breakfast extra delicious. Pour a cup of coffee and dig in!

Um anything chai spiced is declious. Period. End of story.
The recipe is great, but can everyone stop calling it “chai spiced”? chai literally means tea, so “chai spiced” means tea flavoured 😛
Glad you enjoyed it! And exactly, this is “chai spiced” porridge (aka “tea flavored” porridge).
