the perfect green smoothie

Today I am taking off my black stretchy pants for the first time since the holidays! All of those pumpkin cookies reallllly made it hard to put my jeans on. But today, today I am wearing my jeans for the first time in weeks. And guess what, they feel pretty darn good.

IMG_1527I think I have this green smoothie to thank for how good I feel and for the extra 100 bucks in my pocket. A new pair of jeans is not cheap.

This is the kind of smoothie you make on a morning when you have a really important day ahead. It’s the kind of smoothie you make when you haven’t been feeling like yourself recently. It’s the kind of smoothie you make when your jeans are feeling a little too tight. It’s the kind of smoothie you make when you feel a cold coming on. It’s the kind of smoothie you make when you want to have an absolutely AWESOME day.


Not only is this smoothie ridiculously healthy but it is one of the tasty ones I’ve made.  It is loaded with flax seeds, kale, apple, banana, sunflower butter, pure maple syrup, and almond milk. It actually tastes a lot like a milkshake. I love milkshakes so naturally I love this smoothie!

The Perfect Green Smoothie

1 banana (the more ripe it is the better)

1 pink lady apple

1 cup of raw kale, stems removed

1 tbs flaxseeds

1 tbs sunflower butter

1 tbs pure maple syrup

1 cup almond milk

Blend everything together and enjoy!

Off to check on a few things at Tumbleweed Farm. We are going to put the cover on our greenhouse in a couple of weeks.  And a few weeks after that we begin to seed!!!! Woot Woot!

    This post cracked me up! I have had the exact same relationship with cookies and black stretchy pants over the past couple of months. A few days ago, it dawned on me that my sugar habit was going to start costing me some serious money in new (larger) jeans if I didn’t put my treat addiction under control. Love the green smoothie and all the healthful ingredients! This is likely how I’ll wean myself away from the black stretchy pant, too!

  4. Ha! Today was the first day I wore jeans in a week. But I have a good excuse–I’ve been sick. I swear it’s not from over-eating! 😉 This sounds so delicious, especially with the Pink Lady apple. The perfect way to start the day! Or a post-holiday diet!

  6. Perfect post for the after holiday eating! I love green smoothies. They make you feel so energized and ready to go! Plus I eat much better when i’ve had one of these for breakfast. I like that you used kale instead of spinich.
