Early Risers

To be a farmer you must accomplish one important skill.  You need to train your body to wake up early!  Now, if you decide that you want to be a cool farmer (like Taylor and I strive to be) and still have a social life, you need to learn a very tricky balance between fun and sleep.  Taylor and I have been trying to master this tricky balance for over 4 months now. Let me tell you, it is a part-time job trying to still have a social life and work full-time on the farm!  Is it cool if your best friends invite you out to a fancy meal in Boston and you (this is me) fall asleep at the dinner table before your food order comes out?  I’m pretty sure this is not acceptable. Thank god we have non-judgmental friends! (thanks Sean and Ashley!)  Being a farmer is tough work! It is definitely important that your friends are on board with your random sleep patterns! With that being said, how do you like this look at 6:30 on a Friday morning?

This would be me trying to caffeinate myself before a long day in the fields.  I am not sure if the coffee did much this morning……I was dead tired all day!  However, do you like the Adirondack chairs my dad bought for our front porch? I think they look very nice, even with my tired face distracting the beauty!

Alright, moving on… was standard…… hot, hard, tiring, and long! With that being said, I was very happy to bring home some beautiful broccoli to throw into some pasta tonight.  Two of my friends at the farm harvested broccoli today.  I have not harvested broccoli yet.  However, I am hoping this will be in my near future, because, while they harvested broccoli, me and two other people harvested okra.  It was a first for me…..I did not like it………I have a rash….I itch……I don’t eat okra…..what is the fuss about????? Okay, I am being too judgmental, I need to cook some okra before I decide I hate it!

On to dinner.  I was really tired after work today.  I wanted to prepare something quick, easy, and nutritious.  Here is what happened in the kitchen tonight:

Ravioli with a feta cream sauce and broccoli (and peas I threw in at the last-minute)

Okay, I am really bad at posting recipes that I made up as I went along.  I will do my best to get this right so you can cook this in your own kitchen.

My ravioli was pre-made from Trader Joe’s

*First cook pasta according to box directions.

*While that is happening steam your broccoli over the stove top

*Bring 1/4 of a cup of heavy (or light) cream to a simmer

*Add 1/4 cup of feta cheese to the pan with the cream

*Add 1/3 cup of frozen peas

simmer for about 5 minutes and then add the pasta and broccoli with everything.  You should probably enjoy this meal with a glass of vino because you deserve it!

He didn’t put his fork down once! I think I nailed this!
