I know what you’re thinking and no, we didn’t get any cows. Those are our new next door neighbors and they’re so damn cute! They hang out at the fence and keep an eye on us while we’re busy working in the fields. Whenever I’m in the mood to stand upright for a moment I head over and pet them. They’re adorable and have great little personalities.

Recently we’ve been setting our coffee maker earlier and earlier. The sunrise is just shy of 6 am these days and every ounce of light we have we need to take advantage of. Breakfasts have been a combination of scrambled eggs, toast, smoothies or granola. We fuel up quickly before heading out to the fields for long stretches.

We’re playing a bit of catch up from last weekend since Taylor was gone for 48 hours. He flew to the east coast for a very quick trip to cheer his father on in the Boston marathon. That’s right folks, my father-in-law ran the marathon at the age of 68 (he’ll be 69 in a few weeks!) We could not be more proud and inspired by him. I ran the Boston marathon three years ago and it almost killed me. You can read about my experience here. Imagining my father-in-law doing the same race brings tears to my eyes. It’s a big deal and I’m so happy Taylor got to be there to support him.

Anyhow, Henry and I were in charge of the farm for the two nights that Taylor was gone and it was a huge relief when he got back.  We fell behind with a few chores but are quickly catching up this week. The days have been long but very productive. The fields are filling up quickly (a little too quickly) and when we aren’t busy tilling, moving irrigation or planting we’re catching up with weeding. My main focus when I have a few moments to spare is the assassination of the newly germinated weeds.  They can take over quickly and it’s not cool!

My brother and Rebekah arrive to the farm this weekend and we’re so ready to have a little extra help. Our plan is to work hard during the days so we can spend the evenings at the local brew pub relaxing over a few cold pints. We don’t get to see those guys often enough and we could not be more thrilled to have them stay with us.

Anyhow, I hope you all enjoyed a glimpse at the farm life from this past week. Happy weekend everyone. I hope wherever this post finds you that you get to enjoy a slow evening with good food and great company. I’ll be back Monday with a new recipe. Cheers from Tumbleweed!

Hate to say it, but those cows look like steers to me. Maybe it’s the camera angle. Looks like all is going well. I made my first trip to Hutchins porch this week. Can’t wait until the doors open.

LOOK AT THOSE LITTLE STARTERS! And the cows! Swoon. I really need to come visit the farm. And help with them noxious weeds. 😉
