Dishing Up the Dirt

farm fresh baby!

June 4, 2012

It’s time!

Oh yeah, it’s definitely time…..

Summer has arrived.  We have basil my friends!

Clearly we could not be more excited.

Broken backs, hamstrings beyond repair, dirt in every crevice of our bodies….we don’t care, basil is here!

And as if all the stars aligned just for us, we have garlic scapes to boot.

Garlic scapes and basil are great friends you know!

Garlic Scape and Basil Pesto: Heaven in your mouth:

1 bunch of garlic scapes (about 7 scapes) chopped

1 bunch of fresh basil (about 1/3 cup) chopped

1/4 cup parmesan cheese

1/4 cup walnuts

juice of half a lemon

1/2 cup extra virgin olive oil

salt and pepper to taste

Blend everything together in a food processor.  Sever over pasta, pizza, potatoes, or whatever you fancy!

We may or may not have prematurely harvested some summer squash!  It was delightful and tasted wonderful over the pasta.

Everything was accompanied by some farm fresh lettuce and strawberries.  The perfect Sunday evening meal.

Another “this makes me want to lick my screen!” post!

  2. I love the garlic scape pesto recipe! I served it with whole wheat penne and sautéed zucchini. Delicious! http://blog.rickk.com/food/2012/06/pasta-with-zucchini-and-garlic-scape-pesto.html
