Dishing Up the Dirt

chicken anyone?

November 19, 2012

This is a warning: if you are a vegetarian you may not want to see the pictures below. Taylor and I helped kill 7 chickens today. I am a changed woman…..

Killing, plucking, and gutting a chicken is an intense activity.

I feel pretty passionate about knowing where my meat comes from. However, today’s activity raised the bar. I will never look at the meat on my plate the same way again.

Believe it or not, Taylor and I came home from our killing spree and ate mushroom vegan gravy.

We are still feeling a little “off” after our afternoon spent butchering chickens. Thank god for leftovers!

Vegan mushroom gravy tastes awesome over oven roasted potatoes, broccoli, cauliflower, and carrots! You all must try this gravy. It tastes even better after a few days in the fridge. Just reheat it and drizzle on your favorite veggies (or chicken!)

I think our plan is to make chicken and dumplings tomorrow night. You all should run to your local grocery store, buy a free range chicken and get ready for a hearty meat friendly meal!

Off to spend time with Henry. He had to stay home all day. I think he would have loved participating in our activity this afternoon, but that could have been a disaster….

Have a great evening!
