The time has come for Taylor and me to pack away our farm clothes………..
And dig out our ski gear…….
And point the steering wheel west, because we are taking three months off! That’s right everyone, these farmers are taking the winter off. We are getting married in January and plan to spend the next 3 months in Oregon. We plan to ski, cook, and rest. 9 months of farming takes a toll on you physically, emotionally, and mentally. 3 months off is going to be wonderful. So our bags our packed and we are ready to tackle the 3000 mile road trip to Oregon. And we could not be happier. We even have sweet place to live while on the road.
Okay, so we aren’t really going to be living in the truck. But for our cross-country road trip it makes a cozy home. A nice bed, storage space, and room for Henry. Plus a camp stove for cooking. What more do you need? After a summer of being physically uncomfortable all the time, the idea of sleeping on a wooden bed the size of a twin (but there will be two of us on it) sounds like vacation. At least we won’t be hunched over (our permanent position at the farm!) Woo-hoo!
What does this mean for the blog? Well, I will be blogging daily from Oregon. And hopefully I will be able to blog everyday from the road. We have some places along the way where we will be able to use the internet. Once in Oregon I will still cook on a nightly basis and post my recipes. Hopefully, there are some good winter farmers markets out there. And I am hoping to maybe volunteer at a small farm near my parents house. The next three months are going to be an adventure, but come April we will be back out here to begin the farm season and resume our positions as caretakers for the Emerson house. Hopefully you will all join me for the ride!
Good Luck!! Have a great time – and keep on blogging!! Look forward to reports from your enchantingly simple little world!!
Can’t wait to see you! Journey mercies.

What a great new adventure. I’m really glad that Henry gets to go, too. Have a wonderful time. I’ll look forward to your posts.
Oh, and perhaps Henry will be a groomsman???
Good luck on your 3-month adventure!! Skiing for 3 months in winter sounds wonderful!! Keep writing the blog, though; we enjoy your writing as well as the recipes.
I’m…jealous! Don’t ever wish for a normal day job. What you’re doing seems way more fun and rewarding. There are a million ways west from WV, but if you’re doing a drive by of Cincinnati and its Wednesday afternoon stop in at the Northside Farm Market. Happy travels!
If we end up near Northside Farm Market we will for sure stop in! Thanks for the tip!
So exciting! I can’t wait to see Oregon and WEDDING pictures!
It’s coming up SO soon!
I am a little concerned about you two sleeping on that wooden slab…I thought it was for Henry
Drive safe!
you and me both!
Good luck and safe travels! And congrats on your wedding!
