maple salted chocolate (green) smoothie

December 14, 2012

Happy Friday!

IMG_1241Let’s start this weekend off on the right foot shall we?

If any of you are like me, you are totally obsessed with those salted chocolate caramels they sell at Trader Joe’s. I can’t get enough of them! The sweet and the salty gets me every time.

I am embarrassed to admit that I can polish off an entire box of those suckers in one sitting.  NOT the healthiest way to spend the afternoon. So the other morning I was preparing to make my usual smoothie when I decided to try something different.  I was reaching for the salt when Taylor looked over at me and asked “what do you think you’re doing?” I told him to mind his own business and let me do my thang.

IMG_1245Maple salted chocolate (green) smoothies.  You have to trust me on this one guys. They taste almost as good as the salted chocolate caramels from Trader Joe’s!  However, these are packed with spinach, flaxseeds, and almond milk. Very healthy. Taylor gobbled his down. Win!

After enjoying our smoothies we headed up to the farm to check on our garlic and cover crop. We also pulled up a few weeds and took a moment to enjoy the view.

Our little farm is settling in for the winter.  Our seed catalogs are in the mail and we could not be more excited to start preparing for the spring!

Until then, let’s all enjoy a maple salted chocolate smoothie

For 1 serving

1 large banana

1 cup spinach

1 tbs pure maple syrup

2 tbs unsweetened cocoa powder

1 tsp vanilla extract

1/4 tsp good quality sea salt. You may want to start with 1/8 tsp and add more if you feel like making it a tad saltier.  I used 1/4 tsp.

1 tbs almond butter

1 tbs flaxseeds

1 cup almond milk

Blend everything together and enjoy!

Henry has a friend! How great is that! Are they buddies, or might they become a mated pair?

looking forward to trying this tomorrow morning, though i will probably be skipping the salt, not good for my BP. Thanks. Love putting greens in my smoothies.

I’m such a sucker for all things salted and caramel! Such a winning combination. This would make just about anyone love a green smoothie!

  5. Elizabeth says:

Do you have to use a special blender to get the spinach nicely mixed in the smoothie?

    1. drealieberg says:

No! A regular blender works just fine. You just have to blend for a bit longer if you’re using an old/weak blender. Blend for at least 1 minute. Open the lid and give it a stir, then blend for a little longer. Enjoy!
