blueberry basil power smoothie

fix3 basilsmoothie4 One of the things I love best about farming and working outside is my complete awareness of any and all changes in the weather. If the temperature drops 1 degree Taylor and I can feel it. If it rains for 2 minutes we get drenched. As of today, we are officially starting our mornings off in long sleeves. Fall is in the air at Tumbleweed Farm. taytaylettuce Taylor could not be more thrilled. Look at that smile! mecherrys Long sleeves picking cherry tomatoes. That's a first this season! I must admit, I am not quite as enthusiastic as Taylor is about the shorter days and the cooler air.  I am looking forward to the workload lightening up and our fall harvest, but I am still not ready to say goodbye to all of my favorite summertime fare. The first thing that comes to my mind is "eat everything you cannot get in its freshest form a few months from now." And that my friends is how this lovely blueberry basil smoothie came to me. basilsmoothie3 When we were farming at Hutchins Farm one of my favorite snacks when I was out in the fields was a few blueberries wrapped up in a basil leaf. The combination is a match made in heaven. I'm not quite sure why it has taken me so long to figure out that I should make a smoothie using this same flavor combination. It's genius. If you are skeptical you are not alone. Taylor thought the idea of basil and blueberries together sounded totally weird. We have now made this smoothie 3 mornings in a row. He is hooked and I think you all will be too. Trust me! Grab a straw and drink up!
