Dishing Up the Dirt

Goat Milk Latte

This post is a long time coming because I’ve gotten so many inquiries on my Instagram stories about my morning goat milk latte. So here’s the back story. This winter Taylor and I joined a “herd share” which is basically the dairy equivalent of a CSA. We found a lovely local farm (Fair Food Farm) and every other week for the past 10 weeks we’ve received raw organic goat milk, yogurt and cheese. To be honest, I was the most worried about getting through the goat milk. I knew the cheese and yogurt would be easy but I’m just not a milk drinker these days so I wasn’t quite sure how we’d tackle the milk jars. Luckily, my acupuncturist (hi Arista!) gave me the idea to make goat milk lattes. And because I drink coffee every morning (usually with a little cream) I thought, why the heck not? And the result? A rich and creamy beverage with a hint of sweetness and a kiss of tang. It blends beautifully with the coffee and now I can’t get enough!

I’m so darn happy that I discovered the beauty of this special latte. Not only has it helped us get through our milk supply every week but I actually look forward to these lattes while I’m still lying in bed at night. They are literally what get me out of bed in the morning.

The great news is that you don’t have to be a part of a herd share to enjoy these (although I highly recommend it!) Find some good quality goat milk at your farmers market or grocery store and enjoy a cozy morning treat.

Cheers from Tumbleweed Farm

Goat Milk Latte

Prep Time: 5 minutes    Cook Time: 5 minutes    Serves: 1 latte

  • 1 cup goat milk
  • touch of honey (optional)
  • 1/2 cup strong black coffee

Preparation

  1. Heat the milk in a saucepan over medium-high heat until bubbling and warmed through (don't let it come to a boil)
  2. Add the milk and honey (if using) to a high speed blender and whirl away until foamy. Pour the coffee into your mug and top with the frothed milk.

Notes

*You can use a milk frother instead of a blender if you have one

I’m obsessed with lattes, but this… but this… sounds like the ONE I should be having… Your recipes are so inspiring, beautiful, and feel-good healthy! What Oregon coffee bean goes perfectly with this? I’m looking!

I was home for a few days- out ill. Didn’t have many supplies. My sicilian papa had goat milk & honey every morning for breakfast. I remembered that childhood memory and made myself this drink with expresso powder. I drank it for 2 days for fortification. It comforted me greatly. I then made it for my elderly father and we shared a wonderful memory.

Having bought 4 litres of goats’ milk on Flashfood for $0.94, I was thrilled to find your pist about goats milk latte. Chai latte has been my go-to COVID soother, but I am over the moon about this latte recipe. Thank you!!!
If cleaning a milk-stoned saucepan isn’t on your wish list, please know that heating the milk in a glass 2 cup measuring cup in the microwave for 75 sec on Power 8 does the job just as well.
    Not a baaaaahhahah-d idea 😉 A.
