Dishing Up the Dirt

what I’m enjoying now

February 8, 2013

Sipping a pint of my favorite local beer solo at happy hour. It tastes best when enjoyed with Cheryl Strayed. This book is a MUST read. Β I became a fan of Cheryl Strayed when I read Wild. This book resonates even more with me. If you are looking for a good read this is the book for you.Β Photo1

Green juice!

Apple, Kale, Carrot, and Ginger. Sounds weird, tastes amazing. We drink these juices like they are going out of style. Β We can’t get enough!

Hanging out at the river with Henry is always a highlight to my day.

Picking out our seeds for the upcoming farm season has been a real highlight to our winter. Regardless of the stress we are excited for the farm season to start up.

My absolute favorite enjoyment at the moment is hiking around the Gorge with these two guys. We live in such a beautiful place and we cannot seem to get enough hikes in.

What are some of your enjoyments at the moment?

Happy Friday everyone!

How do you always have the best food AND the best books!

  2. Sounds like a great read. Thanks for recommendation. I love home made green juices. Got to make one today as part of my daily dose of health :). Oh, I miss hiking. Can’t wait for the spring. What is my enjoyment at the moment….just trying to enjoy the moment πŸ™‚ like right now sipping warm white tea while watching falling snowflakes through the window (…and hoping that spring is coming soon) or reading in silence, cooking good meals. Happy Friday!

I love your simple enjoyments πŸ™‚

  3. As I sit here drinking my green juice and eating my golden beet salad, I’m inclined to agree with you! πŸ˜‰

  4. I also LOVED Wild- I’ll have to read her next one after your suggestion! πŸ™‚

i wish i could find that variety of beets here; they are so beautiful! and that stuffed eggplant is gorgeous!

  6. Which beets are you getting?! They look deeeeelicious. So does your beer.

I’ve been looking for a great read lately – I don’t do nearly enough reading, so when I’m ready for a great book, I typically don’t know which one to choose. I’m writing Cheryl’s book down for sure! Your green juice looks awesome! And so full of nutrients! Definitely not at all weird and a great habit to be in πŸ™‚ Have a great weekend, lady!!

  8. I’m stocking up on smoothie ingredients this weekend–I’m gonna have to make that one!

  9. Megan Q. says:

I love juicing! We don’t really follow a “recipe” – each time is different, but always results in a great drink.

  10. Andrea I thought about you today when I made this for dinner: http://rouxbe.com/recipes/1859-indian-potato-patties-aloo-ki-tikki/text – they’re Indian Potato Patties! We ate ours like burgers with a homemade curry mayo and a mix of sour cream/chopped tomato/cilantro. These are great!

These sound amazing!!! Thanks for passing along the link!!!!

  11. Carrie Link says:

I got a lot more out of TINY, BEAUTIFUL THINGS than WILD, too. LOVED it! I ran into Cheryl right after I finished it, and told her that I felt I knew her even better from that, than WILD. She says she’s heard that quite a bit, and it’s funny, just what we learn about each other from telling stories. Wasn’t her advice spot on??

  12. I love that pic of beets. I love beets and that reminds me to make more. Enjoy your hikes – they sound just perfectly tranquil and great!

  13. I had no idea there were so many kinds of beets! Thanks for the book recommendation, I’ll have to check that one out.

  14. Mmmm, I made some green juice last weekend and it was so refreshing and delicious! I need to make it more often– the juicer is just such a pain in the arse. πŸ™‚

How did you know I needed a new book to read? πŸ™‚ Also, I’m intrigued by that green juice. Going to have to try it soon!

  16. Andrea says:

New reader here πŸ™‚ I am also an Andrea and not quite a farmer, but a gardener! Would love to have my own little organic farm one day though! That picture of you and your pup is absolutely gorgeous. I can’t believe you guys are in Oregon and it’s so green and no snow!

  17. I love the things that you love πŸ™‚ WELL! I am about to adopt a boyfriend for my Flatpac. He is only 4 months old and I haven’t met him yet but he makes me happy when I think about him!

  18. Love the green juice and the eggplant! Your dog looks so cute!

  19. Monet says:

I love stuffed eggplants…we need to make this a part of our dinner routine too! And I just finished a book, so I’m all about the recommendation. Thank you for sharing. What a good way to end my weekend. I hope you have a great start to your week!

  20. Cate says:

Picking out seeds is seriously fun. Even though I no longer have my community garden (insert sad face), I still can’t get rid of my Seed Savers Exchange catalogs… I call them my garden porn. Can’t wait to see what you guys pick out for this season!
