You’re literally going to have to pinch me and wake me up from this dream. We made a movie!! And the world premiere was in Portland, OR this past weekend.
Our documentary film chronicles mine and Taylor’s experiment to source all of our ingredients from a 200 mile radius of our home for the 30 days of September. We met so many rad farmers, ranchers, fisherman and many other food producers in our neck of the woods. It was one of the most transformative experiences of my life and I’m so excited to share it with you all!
We’ve been working on this little film nonstop for the past 5 months. And by we, I really mean the film makers. They have put in SO many hours of hard work, editing, watching, deleting, adding back in, audio, color correcting, finding the right music, watching some more (and so much more that I don’t even know about!) And hot damn, it’s finally here!!! And we got to watch it with strangers, family and friends alike at the historic Clinton St. Theater in my home city of Portland, OR.
I can’t tell you how surreal it was to stand in the way back with Taylor, Michael and David (the two film makers) and watch the movie and observed the audience. It was a total trip to see it in real time with a crowd. Thank you everyone who came out to support us. We cannot put into words what it means to have this little movie and story that is so near and dear to our hearts out there in the world. And last but certainly not least, thank you to all the farmers and producers who welcomed us into their homes (or onto their boats) and let us experience just a little glimpse into their daily lives of providing food for our community. They absolutely were serving up Coors. These are fisherman…not local beer connoisseurs. The spirit of this film was to meet the producers who put food on our table. Just because we were eating locally we did not expect most of the people we met to do the same. Our number one rule for meeting producers was not to be assholes. So when folks fed us or quenched our thirst we happily accepted what they offered. I hope that clarifies things. Thanks so much for following us along on this journey.

Loved the doc! It has really made me think as well as search out local producers. It is both profound and hesrtbreaking to find that csa or local meat is actually hard to find/recieve in my suburb of the sf bay area. Glad to inspired to think and to put effort into who i support through $ in my community. Thank you!!
