The snow has melted; the deer fence construction continues; the chickens are laying a TON of eggs; the garlic is up; Henry is stoked; and to be honest, we’re pretty happy too! Spring is in the air here at Tumbleweed Farm. We’ve almost filled up our CSA for the 2016 season (only a few spots left!) and all of the seeds have arrived. We officially start seeding in the greenhouse Sunday–hundreds of kale, collards, onions, broccoli and cauliflower on the list for this week. Next week the list grows and it will continue to grow each week for the next 30 weeks. The greenhouse will be full before we know it!
The stars have really aligned for us this year. I finished my memoir/cookbook manuscript this week and I feel like a huge weight has been lifted. I can officially trade in my cooking apron for my farming boots this week! Of course there will still continue to be recipes here but I feel great not needing to cook and photograph 10 meals a day! That whole process just about killed me and I’m relieved that it’s over. With that being said, I guess now is a good time to tell you all that my cookbook, which will also be called Dishing up the Dirt, will be published by HarperCollins in the spring of 2017! I know that sounds like a ways off but there is a lot of behind the scenes stuff that goes on and there will continue to be some editing going on in the next few months. I’m really proud of the work I’ve done and I cannot wait to share everything with you all! The book will be beautiful with so many photos, stories and delicious recipes alike. I’ll continue to keep you posted as things continue to unfold. Thank you for being a part of this with me!
Anyhow, this weekend we’re going to be prepping the fields, organizing seeds, working on the deer fence and well……I guess it’s safe to say we’re back in farming mode. Vacation was short lived this year!

Hey look! No snow! 🙂 Congratulations on finishing your manuscript and marathon cooking/photographing! What an accomplishment! Thank you for taking us along for the ride and continuing to post here, even though your schedule must have been manic at times. I am so excited to have your cookbook in my hands next year and hope a book tour might be in the works as well. Planning to make Wednesday’s harissa roasted chicken this weekend. Pauline! Thank you for the lovely comment. Seriously made my day! Henry is going to be a big part of the book (he’s been a big part of our farming adventures for the past 6 years!!) Henry is 7. He’s a rescue dog that had a pretty rough life and now he’s happy and healthy!
