Dishing Up the Dirt

A beach getaway with my favorite boys

This past weekend Taylor and I packed up the dogs, loaded the Subie with all our overnight gear and turned the steering wheel west.  We were off for a two night getaway to the Oregon coast to celebrate our 8th wedding anniversary.

Taylor and I got married in the dead of winter for the sole purpose that it’s the only time of the year we have “off” from daily farm chores. I’m grateful for a winter anniversary because every year we get to sneak off the farm for a day or two and celebrate and reflect on this crazy and uncertain life we’ve chosen. We’ve weathered a lot of storms together and the deep wrinkles and grey hair starting to make themselves at home on our bodies is a testament to this stressful, dirty and beautiful life. There’s no one else I’d rather grow old with.

We spent our two days away from the farm crabbing, hiking, getting massages, playing with the dogs and having deep conversations about where we want this next chapter of our marriage and lives to head. We feel so privileged and thankful that we are able to indulge in things like massages, and actually have days away from the farm to dream big, reflect on past mistakes, and get excited about the future. This year has a lot in store for us as individuals, as business partners and as a couple. I couldn’t be more excited for it all!

Cheers to more days spent in the dirt, more sunset beers in the fields after a long day, and more evenings sharing nourishing meals with my favorite human on the planet. We may not be as limber as we once were, but these old bones and weathered hands wouldn’t want it any other way.

Cheers to my number one!
