This past week we celebrated many things at Tumbleweed Farm. We’ve officially come to the end of our seeding schedule for the 2015 farm season and it feels oh so good! We also celebrated the first “true” rain of the season which happened to arrive just in time for my 32nd birthday (it was the best gift a farmer could receive this year!) It poured so hard that we didn’t feel guilty leaving the farm and heading out on a proper date. We changed out of our dirty farm clothes and headed to my favorite winery (Analemma) for an afternoon that I’ll remember forever. The lovely couple who own the winery were waiting with a special treat for me. I got escorted to the back room (where a lot of the wine making action takes place) and was delighted to see a giant cupcake, bottle of delicious wine and a barrel full of Mencia grapes waiting for my dirty farm feet. (Don’t worry they hosed me off pretty well!) On my 32nd birthday I got to live out one of my lifelong dreams of stomping grapes while sipping some of the best wine in the valley. Thank you Kris and Steven for making a scrappy farm girl feel pretty darn special on her birthday. If you ever get the chance to go wine tasting in the Gorge be sure to head straight to Analemma. The folks are not only generous but are some of the hardest working people we know and the wine is out of this world. Taylor and I both agree that life doesn’t get much better than a rainy day spent away from farm chores, clinking glasses and celebrating the simple things in life that make all the hard work worth it. 32 feels pretty darn good so far!

Last week was a week of celebration and this coming week is going to be back to the grind. A lot needs to get done but we are feeling refreshed and energized. We hope you all have a lovely weekend surrounded by good food, great wine and lovely company too!

I love the photo of your doggie. And I’m glad that you got rain – one of the most important things for sure to a farmer when there’s been a dry spell. A belated happy birthday to you!

  2. Sarah says:

Sounds like a perfect & very well-deserved birthday! We also LOVE Analemma – the BEST all-around wine (we’ve been saving a bottle of their coveted Blanc de Noir sparkling wine for a special occasion) and the most gracious & hard-working folks (sensing a trend here – rad attracts rad! :)).
